Lint Center for National Security Studies Awards Scholarship to Penn State University undergraduate Honors student, Andrew Thorpe.

Washington, DC/May 18th, 2013 – The Lint Center for National Security Studies, a non-profit organization focused on supporting the educational pursuits of the next generation of America’s Counterintelligence and National Security professionals, announced today that A. Thorpe was selected as the winner of the U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Richard S. Eaton Jr. Scholarship. The scholarship was created in honor of Richard Eaton, a brave and patriotic United States Army Counterintelligence Special Agent & Bronze Star with Oak Leaf recipient, winner of the Thomas G. Knowlton Award from the Military Intelligence Corps Association, winner of many other prestigious citations and awards for his service, and a survivor of the September 11th attack on the Pentagon in Washington, DC.

Mr. Thorpe’s outstanding academic achievements, academic qualifications, multi-faceted & impressive professional skills, his commitment and service in upholding & defending America as well as his interest in international relations and promoting cultural understanding made him a superb candidate for the Richard S. Eaton Jr. Scholarship Award.

A. Thorpe is enrolled as a student at Penn State University where he is currently working hard to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Homeland Security.  He was nominated for the USTRANSCOM ‘Top 12 Outstanding Airman of the Year' award and also has a 4.0 GPA.

Once Mr. Thorpe heard the great news of winning the scholarship, he proudly accepted the Richard S. Eaton Jr. Scholarship Award, “Thank you to the Lint Center for allowing me the opportunity to pursue higher education and life enrichment! If it wasn't for their scholarship and personal mentoring, I doubt I would be able to achieve my future goals & success.”

Mr. Thorpe has received accolades from Richard S. Eaton's incredible family for winning the scholarship in their beloved son’s name. Sharon Noble Eaton, Special Agent Richard Eaton’s mother, shared her thanks on behalf of her son to the Lint Center and honored Mr. Thorpe for working hard to earn the scholarship, “The Lint Center continues to identify and mentor emerging leaders in national security in honor of my fallen son. Mr. Thorpe is a bright, accomplished, and thoughtful individual who is a strong candidate for the support, mentoring efforts, and tutelage provided through a Lint Center scholarship. It is my hope that Mr. Thorpe will properly leverage the resources afforded to him through the Center and that he continues to live up to legacy my son demonstrated of duty faithfully performed on behalf of our great nation.”

Mr. James Lint, Chairman and CEO of the Lint Center of National Security Studies thanked Mrs. Eaton and responded, “Everyone here at the Lint Center is very proud to award the 2013 Richard Eaton Jr. Scholarship to Mr. Thorpe. The Lint Center and the Scholarship Review Committee were won over by the immense amount of work experience, skills, remarkable educational achievements, and understanding of the importance of learning about the global community Mr. Thorpe expressed in his well-articulated scholarship application.”

Recipients, such as Mr. Thorpe, of the Richard S. Eaton Jr. scholarship are chosen on the basis of meeting the following criteria: research activity, awards and accolades, how the issues & personal essays are written, transcripts, professional references and overall presentation. Additionally, with the support of one of the world's leading private geopolitical intelligence companies Strategic Forecasting Inc., or 'Stratfor', Mr. Thorpe has been awarded a full year of Stratfor’s subscription service which includes industry leading intelligence reports providing extensive analysis & forecasting of the world's most important global events.
