Lint Center Announces 2011 Richard Eaton Jr Memorial Scholarship Recipient

Lint Center for National Security Studies Awards Scholarship to Undergraduate at the College of William and Mary


WASHINGTON, D.C., March 27, 2011 – The Lint Center, a non-profit charity, focused on supporting the educational pursuits of the next generation of America’s Counterintelligence and National Security Workers, today formally announced that Devin Hernandez was awarded the Richard Eaton Jr. Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is dedicated in honor of Richard Eaton, a United States Army Counterintelligence Special Agent and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf recipient who died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, in, 2003.


“I am deeply moved to be the 2011 recipient of the Richard Eaton Memorial Scholarship from the Lint Center for National Security Studies,” said Devin Hernandez, an undergraduate at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and member of the William and Mary Detachment of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.  “Being awarded a scholarship named after a great American such as Mr. Eaton is a tremendous honor and I look forward to being part of the Lint Center’s mentoring program to supplement my academic studies with real world context.”


“The Lint Center continues to identify and mentor emerging leaders in national security in honor of my fallen son,” said Sharon Noble Eaton, Special Agent Richard Eaton’s mother. “Mr. Hernandez is a bright, accomplished, and thoughtful individual who is a strong candidate for the support, mentoring efforts, and tutelage provided through a Lint Center scholarship. It is my hope that Mr. Hernandez will properly leverage the resources afforded to him through the Center and that he continues to live up to legacy my son demonstrated of duty faithfully performed on behalf of our great nation.”

About Special Agent Richard Eaton Jr.

Special Agent Richard Eaton was awarded the Bronze Star for his service during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition to numerous other medals and citations, Staff Sgt. Eaton received the Thomas G. Knowlton Award from the Military Intelligence Corps Association, which recognizes those individuals who have significantly contributed to the promotion of Army Intelligence. About Devin Hernandez

Devin Hernandez is a Junior-year government major at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and is planning to declare a second major in history within this year.  His course of studies has placed a strong focus on strategic issues and national security.  While attending Chantilly High School, where he participated in Model United Nations and Debate and took several summer courses on international relations and political science with the Johns Hopkins University CTY program.  In addition to taking classes at William and Mary, Devin studied in Washington DC for a semester during which time interned at the US Department of State.  He is also a member of the William and Mary Detachment of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.  To read his winning essay, please visit http://www.LintCenter.com/Winners/Devin.htm.
